Orlando Sentinel Communications recently concluded its "One Book One Community(TM)" program, encouraging Central Florida residents to read "Because of Winn-Dixie" by Kate DiCamillo between January 12 and February 23, 2003. The six-week program encouraged Central Florida children -- and the adults in their lives -- to read the same book. One Book One Community, launched by the Sentinel in 2002, is the first citywide reading program in the U.S. sponsored by a newspaper -- and the first to select a children's book as its focus.
