The Seattle City Council yesterday approved light poles for sports fields at Warren G. Magnuson Park that are twice as tall as are usually allowed in a residential area.
The lights, which range in height from 66 to 85 feet, will be phased in, with four fields to be lighted first. The effect of the lights on the nearby wildlife habitat and residential areas will be monitored for two years before the other fields are lighted.
