The Australian Government Treasurer, Peter Costello, has recently announced another inquiry into the health workforce in Australia. (1) The Productivity Commission will be conducting the study, which has been endorsed by the Council of Australian Governments. Among other things, the study will examine the supply of and demand for health professionals and the work related pressures facing the health system. The report is due by 28 February 2006.
Around the same time this study was announced, the Australian Health Workforce Advisory Committee (AHWAC) released its latest report on the nursing work force. (2)
