WITH AN ELECTION only weeks away, the debates around taxation, the funding of public services, and tax cuts has been joined in earnest--if it ever went away. There is no doubt that this is one of the defining agendas of current political discourse. But where is sustainable development in this debate? To cede this crucial policy forum and by implication suggest that sustainable development has no contribution to make is to give up on one of the crucial debates that excite both politicians and the electorate.
