NEW YORK -- A federal judge has blocked sales of generic forms of Pfizer Inc.'s Accupril, a ruling seen as a setback to Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. and Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd., both of which had been marketing the product under its generic name of quinapril.
The judge instructed Teva, based in Israel, and Ranbaxy, headquartered in India, to immediately stop marketing their product in its 5-, 10-, 20- and 40-mg versions. As part of an agreement with Ranbaxy, Teva had been selling quinapril under its own label since December.
Pfizer vows to seek damages resulting from Accupril sales that it asserts were lost to the cheaper generic versions. ...
