A new local law in Geddes allows an owner-occupied bed and breakfast to open a small retail shop.

The town board voted unanimously in favor of the law, which directly benefits Moonstruck Manor owner Anne Kowalczyk.

She wanted to be allowed to operate a 300-square-foot gift shop in a small building attached to the main house at 3009 W. Genesee St.

Some area residents worried that the law would set a precedent and allow homeowners to open retail spaces all over West Genesee Street.

In the past, Geddes law didn't allow a second business to operate within an existing business.
