I was delighted to read that the Kampala--Mombasa railway is to receive an upgrade (African Business March issue) but I hope and pray that the wonderful experience of travelling by rail through East Africa will not be lost in the process. Some 15 years ago I took a holiday in Kenya and travelled from Nairobi to Mombasa on the overnight express.
