The Africa Commission Report, initiated by British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Sir Bob Geldolf (of Live Aid fame) was launched last month in London amid great pomp and ceremony.
Someone at the ceremony said excitedly, "this is a blueprint for a new Africa!". That someone was not African. The Africans at the event were their usual polite selves but remained sceptical. They had seen it all before. I wonder if so many trees have ever been felled to make so much paper on which to print so many reports on any subject other than Africa? I also wonder if so much dust has ever settled on so many works as it has on these reports on the status of Africa. Finally, I ...
