4 billion people worldwide have no access to drugs and only 12%-15% of the world's population benefits from new research developments, this month's BioVision world life sciences forum in Lyon, France, has heard (see also page 10).
There are two particular treatment areas of great need: diseases common in developing nations, eg, malaria and tuberculosis; and rare "orphan" diseases.
