Apr. 23--Wind power is coming to the University of Oregon. But don't worry about large turbines sprouting up around campus.
The university Wednesday signed up to buy $11,400 in "green tags" from the Eugene Water & Electric Board. That's what wind-generated power will cost, above usual electricity prices, to run the Erb Memorial Union for the next 12 months.
Encouraged by strong support from students, officials intend to make the wind-powered EMU program permanent -- and paid from student fees.
