SIR John Mills, the actor who portrayed the British as they would most like to see themselves, died yesterday, fittingly on St George's Day. He was 97.
Sir John was head of a showbusiness dynasty. His daughters - Juliet and Hayley - are actresses. His wife, Mary Hayley Bell, also acted but became a playwright. His son, Jonathan, is a screenwriter.

...OSCAR-winning film legend Sir John Mills died yesterday aged 97 after a short illness. Sir John starred in films including Ice Cold In Alex, Ryan's Daughter and Great Expectations. He is survived by his wife, son and two daughters. -GREAT BRITON: Page 23
