Mendelssohn won, but the Bard held his own with a grand Puck.
It was something of a rematch. The grandiose and ambitious teaming of Felix Mendelssohn's "incidental music'' with William Shakespeare's beloved comedy "A Midsummer Night's Dream'' was first attempted locally seven years ago. It is no less a rare and adventurous pairing today. Based on that somewhat uneven 1998 evening, Mendelssohn's score was expected to dominate.
