Apr. 23--Marion Harkey's cross country train trip starts in Oklahoma City and this year will end in El Paso, Texas.
Lawmakers on Thursday ensured the future of passenger train service in Oklahoma City when they agreed on a budget proposal that included $2 million to help keep the Heartland Flyer running.
Harkey, a 66-year-old retiree, takes a yearly trip across the country on Amtrak using an Explore America fare, which lets travelers get on and off the train several times during a period of 45 days.
Harkey is just one of many travelers who are using the Heartland Flyer as the first leg of their cross-country travel. ...
