A number of journalists have made submissions to a joint Parliamentary committee. As at 20 April 2005, the committee has reviewed 90 submissions pertaining to Division III part 3 of the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) Act. The deadline for submissions was 24 March. Under the current legislation, journalists can receive a maximum five-year jail term for breaches the section of the Act that restricts the reporting of ASIO warrants for 28 days.
