THE football ground where Vinnie Jones and the Wimbledon "Crazy Gang" rose to fame is to be turned into housing.
Mayor Ken Livingstone has given the green light for plans to build hundreds of new homes on the now-derelict Plough Lane - destroying hopes that the club would one day return to its spiritual home.
Fans say the news brings " closure" to a painful period in the club's history, but they remain determined to find a new home in Merton. They had argued that a 20,000-seat stadium could be built on the site if the number of houses was reduced.
