When I speak with fellow pediatricians about the epidemic of obesity among children, I hear alarm in their voices, but also a heavy note of despair.
This is an issue we know we need to own. If we could prevent healthy babies from becoming overweight children, and intervene with chubby children before they became obese adults, we could have a huge impact on our patients" lives and on public health.
We know that more than 75% of obese 15-year-olds will be obese adults. We know we have a window of opportunity to reach children before that age, and even to intervene with the older children in our practices before the health consequences of obesity catch up ...
