When black patients come into Dr. Lynne Perry-Bottinger's New Rochelle office, they sometimes say, "Hey, I want that drug for African-Americans.''
They're talking about BiDil, a heart drug that is on track to be approved specifically for use in blacks. Dr. Perry-Bottinger knows all about it: She teaches at the medical schools of Columbia and Cornell and is on the board of the Association of Black Cardiologists, whose backing helped give the BiDil trials credibility.
