New Delhi, Apr 29 (PTI) Doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Friday claimed to have performed country's first robotic surgery for prostate cancer which is the most prevalent form of cancer among men.
"The robotic surgery was performed on a 62-year-old man," Dr A K Hemal, professor, Department of Urology at the institute, who carried out the surgical procedure told reporters here.
"It took two hours and 10 minues with only about 50 cc blood loss," he said. While in the West, 90 per cent of prostate cancer cases are detected in early stage, while in India, 90 per cent cases are diagnosed in later stage.
