BAGHDAD, Iraq _ A bomb blast in northern Iraq on Sunday killed at least 25 mourners at the funeral of a Kurdish official slain the day before, in the latest escalation of violence by insurgents intent on derailing the formation of a new Iraqi government.
The attack brought to more than 100 the number killed since most of the nation's Cabinet was announced last Thursday, ending three months of bitter stalemate but also heralding an increase in insurgent violence. At least nine American soldiers were among those killed since Thursday.
