Article: Bulgaria headed for EU membership.(Brief Article)

Bulgaria has again been recognized by the European Union (EU) as a "functioning market economy" and the country is now well advanced toward full EU membership. The EU's Regular Report, issued in 2004 said further that Bulgaria was well equipped to deal with the "competitive pressure and market forces within the Union."

Bulgaria was first recognized as a market economy in 2002. The country will receive economic aid from the EU through 2006 to help with accession to full membership.
