May 3--Only Calvert County grew faster in Maryland than Frederick County over the past decade, according to the most-recent population figures from the U.S. Census Bureau.
On July 1, 1994, Frederick County had 171,801 residents. Ten years later, on July 1, 2004, that number was 217,653. The county's 26.7 percent growth was topped in Maryland only by smaller Calvert County with 40.1 percent growth from 61,706 to 86,474 residents.
Frederick County Commissioners President John L. Thompson Jr. said that Frederick County's number would have been higher if there hadn't been water moratoriums in effect for the past few years. These ...
