These have been precious times for the founder of Earth Day, Wisconsin's Gaylord Nelson.
A Wisconsin Public Television portrait and a new biography, "The Man From Clear Lake," written by Bill Christofferson, have focused new attention on Nelson's remarkable life and long list of accomplishments.
Nelson, 88, is not in good health these days. He scheduled no official Earth Day appearances and thought about skipping his annual Earth Day message this year. In the end, he and longtime friend Bill Bechtel worked together in Nelson's Washington, D.C., home to fashion a message. Wow, what a message it was.
