May 4--HIGH POINT -- North Carolina lost more than 500 fabric industry jobs this week following announcements by Culp Inc. and Sara Lee Corp.
Monday evening, High Point headquartered Culp Inc. announced the company would relocate velvet production equipment from Burlington to Anderson, S.C. The restructuring move will reduce Culp's employees in Burlington by about 225 people. The figure represents about 17 percent of those in Culp's domestic upholstery fabrics business.
Also on Monday, Sara Lee Corp.'s branded-apparel division announced plans to cut about 350 positions in the division that produces Champion sportswear and intimate clothing under the ...
