May 4--Rodney and Joanne Berry drive to Michigan four to five times a year to visit their son, Adam, who attends boarding school there.

Not just any boarding school. Adam, 18, will graduate this month from the prestigious Interlochen Arts Academy, the nation's first fine-arts program of its kind for high school students.

"He loves it," Joanne Berry said of Interlochen Arts Academy.

By car, the trip to Interlochen takes 11 hours. The Berrys stay three or four days each time. They overnight in a guest hotel on campus, eat out every meal and sometimes shop.
