Article: CHEN INVITES CHINESE COUNTERPART TO VISIT TAIWAN.

KIRIBATI, May 4 Asia Pulse - Visiting Taiwan President Chen Shui-bian on Tuesday invited his Chinese counterpart, Hu Jintao, to visit Taiwan to get a better understanding of the island's general situation and its people's desires.

Chen extended his public invitation to Hu during a tea party with a group of Taiwan reporters covering his current three-nation South Pacific diplomatic tour.

"We hope President Hu Jintao can come to see for himself whether the Republic of China (Taiwan) is a sovereign, independent country and what our 23 million people have in mind, " said Chen, who arrived in Kiribati earlier in the day for a two-day state visit.
