King Pharmaceuticals, Inc. explained today that King's patented angiotensin converting enzyme ("ACE") inhibitor, Altace(R) (ramipril), was not included in the recently reported Antihypertensive and Lipid-Lowering Treatment to Prevent Heart Attack Trial ("ALLHAT"), but was the subject of the landmark HOPE (Heart Outcomes Prevention Evaluation) trial. Rather, the ALLHAT trial involved patients who were treated with either amlodipine, a calcium channel blocker, lisinopril, an ACE inhibitor, or chlorthalidone, a diuretic.
