President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo extended yesterday her condolences to the family of former World War II guerrilla leader Luis Taruc, whom she eulogized as a "fighter for the poor" and "champion of peace" in his crusade for social equality in the 1940s.
Taruc, who led a guerrilla war against Japanese occupation forces in the country during World War II, died last Wednesday of heart failure at the St. Lukes Hospital in Quezon City. He was 92.
