TRAVERSE CITY, Mich., Aug. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- The nation's domestic automakers have launched a new, cooperative research program to speed the development of light-weight metals for use on cars and light trucks. 
The Big Three's new research initiative will focus on aluminum, magnesium and metal matrix composites.  Scientists and engineers from Chrysler (NYSE: C), Ford (NYSE: F) and General Motors (NYSE: GM) will work together to define and conduct vehicle-oriented research and development on light-weight metals and metal processing.
