Moderate recovery in 2004 and slight improvement forecast for 2005: that was the state of the European chemical industry according to Cefic, the European Chemical Industry Council, at the end of November 2004.
European Union chemicals output (excluding pharmaceuticals) was expected to rise by 2.4% last year, and 2.6% this year (Figure-1; data for all 25 countries of the enlarged EU). The figure for 2004, though relatively modest, is well above the average performance for the previous three years.
