Article: Kemal Dervis confirmed as new UNDP chief.

United Nations, May 5 (PTI) The United Nations General Assembly on Thursday unanimously confirmed Kemal Dervis, a former finance minister of Turkey and senior World Bank official, as the next Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Dervis, currently a member of Turkey's parliament, is expected to officially start his four-year term on August 15, 2005.

"I am thrilled that the Secretary-General and the General Assembly have placed their confidence in me as the new UNDP Administrator," Dervis said.

"I relish the opportunity to work for an organisation which has always stood at the frontlines of the battle against poverty ...
