TALLAHASSEE, Fla. _ The most common excuse given by athletes who use steroids is ``Everybody else is doing it, so I can't compete if I don't use them, too.'' Sounds reasonable, right?
Maybe there's some truth in that _ or maybe you can compete and win, too. No one knows. But there is little doubt that you can stay healthier longer if you don't get juiced up on steroids.
In adolescents, steroids can cause stunted growth. In adult men, impotence and sterility. In women, masculinization and a deeper voice and hair loss that are both irreversible. Anyone using steroids is at risk for liver, heart and blood clotting ...
