The following is a collection of relatively modest observations on some aberrations relating to mineral collecting and the professional literature of gemology that all too often crop up in the popular literature. Each, by itself, would not be weighty enough to constitute an entire column, so in this one I am attempting to sweep up a number of bits and pieces, all united under the mantle of mineral properties. The fact that I am "sweeping up" loose ends may suggest that I am in danger of running out of new column topics, and that is a very real threat unless readers come forth with suggestions for additional ones. Are there any pet peeves out there? I invite you to share ...
