TAIPEI, May 6 Asia Pulse - Taiwan's President Chen Shui-bian said Thursday he is determined to work with opposition leaders to mend inter-party rifts and pursue peaceful co-existence across the Taiwan Strait.
Chen made the pledge after his return from a hectic South Pacific diplomatic tour that took him to three of Taiwan's allies in the region - the Marshall Islands, Kiribati and Tuvalu - with a surprise overnight stop in Fiji, with which Taiwan does not maintain official ties.
Chen's return coincided with opposition People First Party (PFP) Chairman James Soong's departure earlier in the day for what Soong has billed as a "bridge-building" journey to ...
