May 6--A public meeting Thursday on the $85 million project to improve roads downtown reopened some old wounds for people who live and work in East Knoxville.
The meeting at the John T. O'Connor Senior Center was designed to discuss upcoming construction on extending Hall of Fame Drive to Broadway and reconfiguring James White Parkway. The project also will close or redirect some city streets.
Representatives of the Tennessee Department of Transportation, the engineering firm for the project and the contractor, expected to field questions about environmental impacts, road closures and affects on businesses.
