This year's Red Sox home-opener was perhaps the most memorable in the long history of Fenway Park, what with a World Series banner being raised, championship rings dispersed and, yes, the Yankees sitting in the visitors' dugout to watch it all.
But on a day of cheers, a day of hugs, a day of joyous tears, nothing beat the specter of 85-year-old Johnny Pesky emerging from the dugout as the last uniformed member of the Red Sox to be introduced. Later, noting that the old shortstop has been a member of the Sox family for more than 60 years, right fielder Trot Nixon made the pitch: It's time for the team to retire Pesky's No. 6.
