May 7--GPS, SOFTWARE SET STEERS DRIVERS IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION: For just under $100, venerable mapping company DeLorme Inc. offers laptop owners a global positioning system radio receiver complete with extensive on-screen road maps and speech recognition.
"When is my next turn?" a user says into his laptop's microphone. "Proceed 28 seconds to Waveland Avenue and turn left on North Addison," answers the software.
That sample trip directed this reviewer from his home on the North Side to Wrigley Field, a tiny journey for this nationwide travel tool but enough to give the flavor.
