Elmore Leonard's latest novel is called The Hot Kid, which might remind some of another novel Leonard wrote, a little number called Be Cool.
What gives with the temperature titles?
"I hadn't thought of that," Leonard chuckles at the icebreaker question. "But they're pretty different situations. Be Cool is in the city, and The Hot Kid takes place in kind of rural Oklahoma."
Indeed, Be Cool, the book on which the recent movie was based, takes place in modern Los Angeles. The Hot Kid, by contrast, follows ace lawman Carl Webster on the trail of various bank robbers in the early 1930s.
