At the time of writing, the Daily Telegraph is becoming dewy-eyed about the Union flag being hoisted for the last time over the British High Commission in Tonga. The article is written in nostalgic tones, already grieving for the demise of the Pacific mission guarded by four carronades "salvaged from a British privateer which was attacked by Tongans in 1806 during one of the frequent clashes with European explorers".
