Introduction
Does daily monitoring of diabetes control need to be done? If it does, what equipment should be used? What are the benefits (or lack of them) to patients, and the ongoing and increasing costs to the healthcare service? This article describes how one primary care trust (PCT) addressed these issues by developing guidelines for practice nurses and pharmacists, and a leaflet for people with diabetes advising them on what, if any, home blood glucose monitoring they should do.
