Mariah Carey posted the biggest sales week of her career last week and returned to the top of the nation's album sales chart for the first time in eight years.

"The Emancipation of Mimi," Carey's second disc for Island, sold 404,000 copies in the week ended Sunday, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Carey's last No. 1, "Butterfly," her final album for Columbia, sold 235,000 units in its debut sesh; it was followed by personal troubles and the lambasted "Glitter" film and soundtrack.

Mudvayne and Garbage also posted personal bests, landing at Nos. 2 and 4, respectively. Mudvayne, which has had a No. 1 hit on rock radio with "Happy?," saw its Epic release "Lost and Found" ...
