Article: IT'S ALL BECAUSE OF "ELEANOR'; MOVIE ABOUT THIEF INSPIRED REVIVAL OF MUSCLE CARS.(Auto)(Column)

Byline: Kenn Peters Staff writer

The way Ben Gregory figures it, Eleanor had a lot to do with the revival of muscle cars from the '60s and '70s as the rides of choice for the hot rod crowd.

Who's Eleanor?

Eleanor is the 1967 Ford Shelby Mustang GT 500 that had a starring role with Nicolas Cage and Angelina Jolie in the 2000 movie "Gone in 60 Seconds."

It's the story of a car thief who comes out of retirement to steal 50 cars in one night to save his brother's life.

All of the stolen cars in the movie had female names, but Eleanor played a central role with Cage.

Since that time - and maybe it's pure coincidence ...
