Lack of `common sense' led to crisis at Hub lab.(News)

Common sense could have prevented an outbreak of "rabbit fever" at a Boston biomedical center last year, according to a scathing report that slapped lab operators with citations and fines.

"It's common sense and it's a requirement of OSHA that these employees wear gloves and eye protection. If they forgot they should have been retrained," said John Chaves of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, which doled out a $8,100 penalty to Boston University Medical Center.
