Jul. 7--Gov. Arne Carlson continued to warily circle the Northwest Airlines labor situation on Tuesday, attempting to gently move the parties toward agreement without aggressively advocating for either side.

Hours after the airline reached a settlement with its pilots' union, Carlson held a lunch meeting at the governor's residence with representatives of two other key unions - the machinists and the Teamsters. But the Independent-Republican governor stopped short of recommending the concessions package to the union leaders.
