Diagnostic utilities, like rabbits in the Australian veldt, have overrun the computer world. Literally hundreds exist, measuring everything from random file access to hard disk surface integrity. The stand-alones, like Spafford's Cache Test, provide indepth analysis within an extremely limited area. Others play the field, like Norton Utilities' System Info and Quarterdeck's Manifest, combining data summaries with benchmarks of varying relevance.
Then there are the advanced diagnostic utilities, the best known of which is AMI Diag. American Megatrends Inc. (the AMI in AMI Diag and AMI BIOS) has just released version 4.0.
