Chris Bouton isn't exactly thrilled her son wants to join the Wisconsin Army National Guard.
While 17-year-old Jeremy Sweeney sees an opportunity to serve his country and help pay for his education, his mother fears the military will ship him off to war in Iraq or Afghanistan.
"He is my only child. That's a big part of it," said Bouton, who must give her consent for her son to join because he's younger than 18.
The Wisconsin Army National Guard frequently hears those concerns as it struggles to recruit and retain troops at a time when they have been asked to serve lengthy tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.
