NAPLES, Fla.--Jul. 27--Aggressive advertising and marketing by Florida's competitors has contributed to a significant loss of business in key tourism markets, Secretary of Commerce Greg Farmer said Monday.
Speaking here before 650 people at the Governor's Conference on Tourism, Farmer said 13 important cities in the Northeast, Midwest and Southeast pumped fewer visitors into the Florida pipeline last year. The losses included a 24 percent decline in visitors from Boston and a 13 percent decline in Dayton, Ohio.
"Six cities had double-digit declines," Farmer said. "We think some of these people are going to other destinations."
