will announce plans Wednesday to launch a new carrier using the name.

Kenneth T. Carlson, one of the original founders of Midway in 1976, is president of the new company, called Midway Air Transportation Inc. He left the airline in 1980 and later worked for Frank Lorenzo's New York Air and Texas Air. Most recently he worked for Jet Express, a commuter airline based in Washington, D.C.

The new Midway Airlines will offer "full-amenity, value-priced, non-stop service" between Midway Airport and Washington's National, New York's LaGuardia and Boston's Logan airports, according to the firm.
