Woman's disappearance may have been voluntary
Lane County sheriff's detectives are trying to confirm a report that a missing Creswell woman left home voluntarily and is safe.
A friend of Rebecca Lynn Hess, 28, says the woman has called within the past two weeks, the sheriff's office reported Wednesday. Hess' family believes that the friend is telling the truth, detectives said.
Hess vanished from her apartment April 14 without telling her family where she was going. Her disappearance caused concern because she is terminally ill and because an ex-boyfriend recently was released from prison in Florida.
