The leading light of the Young British Artists movement made a record sale at Sotheby's auction of the contents of his Pharmacy restaurant on 18 October, which generated GBP 11.1 million (USD 20 million). This result largely outstripped even the most optimistic forecasts (GBP 4.9 million).

The auction was organised during the Frieze Art Fair and attracted more than 500 collectors who picked up every piece on offer. Lot number 1, for example, consisted of two Martini glasses, estimated at between GBP 50 and 70, and which sold for GBP 4,800. That set the tone for the rest of the sale.
