Campaigning by Mortgage Strategy and its readers has paid off, with chancellor Gordon Brown doubling the minimum Stamp Duty threshold to #120,000 in last week's Budget.
Though this is a small step in the grand scheme of things and further shake-ups of the tax are required, it comes the week after Mortgage Strategy delivered its Step Up Stamp Duty petition to 11 Downing Street.
In lifting the threshold at which Stamp Duty on house purchase becomes payable the chancellor has taken a step in the right direction and in some parts of the country this concession will certainly reduce part of the financial burden facing first-time buyers.
